Matthew Carlson, The Man Behind The Screen

Matthew Carlson is a man of character, class and a strong work ethic when it comes to schoolwork and his friends. Matthew is currently a senior at Slippery Rock University majoring in digital media. Matthew is currently involved with many organizations on campus like The Marching Pride, CORE Street Team, Film Society and WSRUTV. For some of these organizations, Matthew is the social media coordinator for The Marching Pride, and Film Society. His job is to record videos of different events and members involved in these organizations and post them on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. These posts are used to raise awareness of the activities involved within the organizations and to inform people on social media of upcoming events and achievements accomplished. Through the classes that Matthew has taken at Slippery Rock University, he has learned valuable skills and tactics to shape him into a fine user of social media. He has learned how to use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint and many more. All of these programs have helped him to become a better designer and writer and that has helped him in the long run on social media. Matthew has also travelled with his social media class sophomore year to London and got the chance to interact with real businesses and interview them on how they use social media for both personal and professional purposes. Mathew has also got to travel to different film festivals with the Film Society and got to interact with other students from different universities and talk to other students on how they use social media to their organization and schools’ advantage. Thanks to Matthews hard work, the Marching Pride also received an invitation for next year to go march in Ireland for the St. Patrick’s Day International Parade that will feature bands from all around the world. The mayor if Ireland was sent promotional videos and saw clips taken by Matt online that helped promote the band. Matthews videos for the Marching Pride get hundreds of views on Facebook alone and plenty of likes and comments from friends, family and alumni that have seen or been part of the marching pride. The work he does not only sets him apart from others but helps to build his resume for the workplace. Matthew has an internship with Iron Mountain starting on January 7, 2018. There he will be learning the necessary skills to be successful in the media business. He will be assisting with audio and video production work in the studio from behind the scenes. He is very excited and has been looking forward to this for several months. Matthew plans on taking the knowledge and experience he learns at Iron Mountain and going into the broadcast or digital media market. His plan is to find a job where he can do field PR or create online content for a company using the experience he’s learned from Slippery Rock University. Matthew Carlson is a great and hardworking individual and if you don’t know him, you’re missing out because he’s one of those friends that everybody should have.
