In The Beginning

This is where it all begins. My first official blog that will discuss news around my college campus and hopefully be of some interest. Before that though, a little bit about myself. My name is Ronald Petrelli and I'm a Senior Integrated Marketing Communication major. I'm currently in a class called new media journalism in which we are going to learn the proper definition of what is defined as newsworthy. This is a valuable skill to learn because in our current generation and future generations to come, the news will continue to be important in our daily lives. There is always news around us and with electronic news becoming more frequent, for awhile we had to deal with fake news being distributed. It's best to know what can be observed as newsworthy and what isn't. I'm also interested in learning about how to really observe the environment and learn what can be considered newsworthy. This blog is going to be focused around Slippery Rock University. I like to read/listen to many news outlets so it'll be interesting not only for you, but for me to try to use their stories and formats as a base for my own writing. One online news outlet that I enjoy listening to on a daily basis because it's short and designed for students is CNN 10 with Carl Azuz. They provide multiple stories that are recent and can relate to many people. They also have a fun 10-second quiz that is multiple choice in every show that always relates to its next story. It's a great start to any day to listen to 10 minutes of the news. Another news outlet I enjoy reading is the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. They are the second largest daily printed newspaper in the Pittsburgh region. They deliver straight to our house and are my moms favorite paper as well solely because she gets to coupon with them. They offer news of all kind and in print form so you don't have to stare at a screen for hours and hurt your eyes. They have very talented reporters and writers that give the news in a very objective and understandable style. Overall, i'm excited to be learning how to find things that are considered newsworthy like all the talented and hard working employees in the organizations above. This is the beginning of the journey and I'm excited to be sharing it with all of you.
